Study Style

Henry Gogarty Secondary School has a good foundation and culture that empowers the students to attain their uppermost objectives for both Ordinary Level and Advanced Level studies. Furthermore, Henry Gogarty bestows the best educational opportunities on ten  (10) combinations: PCB, PCM, CBG, CBN, PGM, EGM, ECA, HGE, HGL and HKL. 

Henry Gogarty Secondary School has a conducive environment for personal studies, group discussions, and free consultation from competent teachers. These aspects enhance a student's ability to have estimable performance in her academics and acquire holistic, growth.

The school has a magnificent library with enough reliable teaching and learning materials for all students to use for personal and class studies. It has glorious laboratories, i.e., Chemistry, Biology, Computer and Physics Laboratories, with sufficient apparatus, equipment, chemicals, and specimens to execute diverse categories of practicals.

Teachers at Henry Gogarty are knowledgeable and highly experienced, with the ability to train different students and ensure that they master, at similar paces, their anticipated objectives. Students are given standard examinations and tests, i.e., weekly tests, monthly tests, showering tests,  inter-class exams, mid-term and end-of-term exams.

Henry Gogarty  Students get opportunities to learn outside the school campus circle, and students are exposed to academic and social interactions with academically competent neighboring schools in Arusha and Kilimanjaro region. There are study tour programs in each intellectual cycle. Students visit various tourist attraction sites such as Amboni Caves in Tanga, National Parks, National Assembly Sessions in Dodoma,  and there is a plan to move out of the boundary and have tours in developed countries for further science and technological exploration.

Students at Henry Gogarty can be members of various international and national clubs such as Life-Link in Sweden, YUNA (Youth United Nations), Mali-Hai, SCOUTS, TYCS, Roots and Shoots and Debates.

Hostel Life

Henry Gogarty provides the best accommodation for the Ordinary Level (O-Level) and Advanced level (A-Level). The hostels are well maintained with maximum hygiene to keep(offer) the best conducive environment for the students.

The hostel has enough rooms, beds, bathrooms and toilets with good water supply and sewage systems. The hostel has enough areas like a washing, ironing, and hanging bay. There is a constant supply of hot water.

Meals 

The Henry Gogarty provides four meals daily of good quality, well prepared, and complete hygiene.  There is a large dining Hall for all students to take their meals.

Water

The school has clean and safe drinking water, which is well-purified and treated for the health and safety of the students. There are two sources: the spring and borehole.

Electricity 

There are three sources of electricity, including National Grid Power (TANESCO), a school standby generator and solar panels.

Security and Safety 

The school is constantly secured with Guards, help from CCTV Cameras surrounding the school buildings and female guardians (Matron) who support the students and maintain their maximum discipline while in the hostel. 

Moral Support 

There is systematic guidance and counseling from school counselors and spiritual personnel.

SCHOOL RULES

Students are required to behave elegantly at all times. If one misbehaves, she is notified or corrected. But if it's a grave breach, disciplinary procedures are taken immediately. This may include suspension and total dismissal. The school rules include the following.

RULES

  1. A student needs to be healthy-mannered and revere self and others.
  2. A student must attend all class hours from 7:30 a.m. until 4.00 pm. Disciplinary action will be taken against habitual absences in the class.
  3. When a student is within the school compound she must communicate using English Language except during Kiswahili lessons and on Wednesdays.
  4. A student must strictly follow all legal instructions from the school administration, teachers, or any other lawful authority.
  5. Cheating in the examinations, stealing, use of alcohol or prohibited drugs, abusive language, pregnancy and any other form of misconduct will not be endured. 
  6. A student cannot bring or possess a mobile phone on the school premises.
  7. A student is not automatically promoted to the next class unless the academic progress and behavior are satisfactory. To be admitted to the next class, her marks should be above sixty-one (61)
  8. Students are not permitted to bring foodstuffs in the school campus after a holiday or when they go outside the school on permission grounds

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

Entrepreneurial Activities

Students at Henry Gogarty will have an opportunity to be involved in entrepreneurial activities, such as in income-generating activities projects in the school, which include poultry, piggery, gardening, farming, goats and sheep rearing, bakery and cake making. The primary objective of these projects is to empower students with entrepreneurial skills.

Sports and games.

Students will participate in various indoor and outdoor games, such as football, netball, volleyball, basketball, traditional dances, modern dances, choir, acrobatics, drama plays, etc.  This is highly considered to maintain the physical and mental health of the students. A proficient coach supervises the students.
